In 1953, renowned architects and designers - including Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard - began collaborating on a home for J. Irwin Miller. When they noticed they needed outdoor furniture to accent the landscape design, they reached out to Charles and Ray Eames. That's when the Eames Aluminum Group was first conceived. For their outdoor ottoman, the Eameses envisioned something lightweight, unique and modern, and that's just what they designed. The Eames Aluminum Group Ottoman's features include:
- Sustainable design.
- Rust-free aluminum frame.
- Outdoor weave fabric.
Eames Aluminum Group Ottoman Features
The Ottoman is made of 64 percent recycled materials, and it's 95 percent recyclable at the end of its life.
Powder-Coated Aluminum Frame
The Eameses utilized aluminum for their outdoor designs, which allowed them freedom in casting exactly the shapes they wanted. The powder-coated aluminum has a durable finish and a long lifespan.
Outdoor Weave Fabric
Polyester was the first fabric of choice for the Ottoman, but it was better suited to indoor furniture. Now, Herman Miller, uses an Outdoor Weave fabric similar in capabilities to the Pellicle suspension material of the Aeron Chair.
