Eames Executive Work Chair by Herman Miller
designed by Charles and Ray Eames
This luxurious chair is an example of Charles Eames’s belief that “details are not details; they make the product.” Generously sized, the executive work chair features a lightweight aluminum frame and base, and finely detailed leather upholstery accented with covered buttons and edge details typical of traditional fine furniture.
Comfort comes first with the Eames Executive Chair. Its seat has 4-1/2-inch-thick foam cushions; the back cushions are 3 inches thick. Armrests are well padded.
Adjustable seat height, tilt-swivel mechanism, and a five-star base add to the comfort. Available with casters or glides, the chairs can work well in a conference room, board room, conversation area, or behind a desk.

Charles and Ray Eames
Charles and Ray Eames are perhaps the most celebrated designers of the 20th century. Married in 1941, the Eames duo are responsible for some of the most critically acclaimed furniture designs of the modern era. Amongst their most famous designs are the molded plywood chair, the aluminum chair group, and the Eames Executive Chair. Although they are most often remembered today for their furniture designs with partner Herman Miller, the Eameses engaged in artistic expression across a broad range of mediums- including architecture and filmmaking.
About the Design
In 1972, the executive chair made the news when notoriously fussy chess genius Bobby Fischer included this chair among his many demands for his legendary 1972 world championship match with Russian master Boris Spassky. When Spassky got a look at the chair, he demanded one for himself, and a second chair had to be shipped pronto to Iceland, where the match was being held.
