Mademoiselle Printed Chair
designed by Philippe Starck
This is an innovative design for an armchair because of its clever and novel combination of two aesthetic qualities: the structure is an injected mold of transparent polycarbonate upon which are placed four fasteners, allowing for a sturdy, yet flexible fit for a seat made of expanded polyurethane. The Mademoiselle Chair's advanced technology consists in the use of unusually thick, soft fabric for the seat, which provides for maximum comfort and enhanced aesthetic quality. It boasts a harmonious design and extraordinary comfort.

About the Manufacturer
Creativity and technology, glamour and functionality, quality and innovation: a combination of extraordinary factors together with a strategic vision of distribution has contributed to the lasting success of Kartell. By cultural and entrepreneurial choice, since its origins in 1949 the Italian manufacturer has chosen to characterize itself as the market leader in the production of designers articles which use technology and plastic materials. This choice requires a great understanding of materials and transformation technology. A leader in furniture design, Kartell addresses an international audience with a collection unique in originality, variety, size, and range.
Environmental Info
Contrary to the common idea, products in plastic materials are highly ecological for the reason that they can be recycled (with the exception of polyurethane, little used in Kartell seating). In addition, the use of plastics reduces the need for living plants, such as trees, which are costly and take years to replace. In order to simplify the recycling process, the various components of Kartell furniture can be easily separated and reduced to elements made of one single material. Moreover, the plastic parts of each product carry, clearly printed, an identification mark to determine the correct classification of the seven different kinds of plastic and their effective recycling.

Philippe Starck
Few designers have had an impact across the world of design like Philippe Starck. Winner of the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award from The Designer magazine, Starck's most famous furniture pieces include the Ghost Chair series, the Bubble Club group, and the Ero S Chair. From modern furniture, restaurant interiors, to architecture, the French icon has made lasting impressions to all those exposed to his work. However, his most significant designs have been in the world of staggeringly original mass produced consumer goods, which have been sold in stores like Target across the United States. In addition to his mass-produced furniture, some of Starck's more notable projects have included designing the Optical Mouse for Microsoft, the interior of former French President Francois Mitterand's private apartment, and the Paramount Hotel in New York.
The son of an inventor and engineer, Philippe Starck is gifted with an imaginative mind. Starck combines this creativity with his architecture and design background to ensure every project he is involved with betters the world around him. Starck not only talks about improving the world we live in, but he lives out these beliefs in his everyday actions. Founder of an organic food company, Starck has begun designing affordable wind turbines for the homes of everyday people. His next green endeavors will include hydrogen vehicles and solar-powered boats.
Care & Maintenance
Simple care is needed for the maintenance of Kartell products to retain the original features of the materials.
PLASTIC MATERIALS
Cleaning Use a soft damp cloth with soap or a liquid detergent, preferably diluted with water. Do not use acetone, trichloroethylene, ammonia or other corrosive plastic cleaners. Avoid ethyl alcohol, which dulls the surface. We recommend always using a damp cloth to prevent plastic surfaces from becoming charged with static electricity which attracts dust. Also avoid abrasive solvents, cleaning powders and creams, steel wool or rough sponge cloths.
Use Do not drag objects across the plastic surface, even if it has a scratch resistant finish, since sharp objects can damage the plastic just as they would damage wood or metal. Do not place very hot plates or pots directly on the surface, but always use a cloth or trivet.
WOOD
Cleaning As with plastic surfaces, use a soft damp cloth. Do not use alcohol or other spot removers. For a deeper cleaning use a little nonabrasive liquid detergent and wipe in the direction of the wood grain. Dry the surface well with a soft cloth. Never use acetone, trichloroethylene or
ammonia.
Use Moisture in wood can cause swelling which is normal in a natural material. Our woods hold up well under normal temperature and humidity conditions. Slight color variations from one piece of wood to another are normal and these tend to disappear with time. Wood can change color over time. To delay this, it is best to avoid placing it in direct sunlight.
METALS
Cleaning Normal soil on a steel or aluminum surface, whether natural or painted, should be removed with luke-warm water and a liquid household cleaner using a soft cloth or chamois. Never use cleaning powders, abrasive or steel wool pads, which can cause scratching, or liquid
detergents that contain chlorine or its derivatives such as bleach or muriatic acid.
Use Avoid spilling grapefruit juice, cola, salt and coffee on metal surfaces. These can cause indelible stains. To remove black marks on aluminum chair legs, products especially made for steel finishes or non-abrasive car polishes are recommended.
