    No Arms
Armless chairs allow the chair to fit easily under a desk or table and are ideal for activities that require freedom of motion.

    Fixed Arms
Arms are set at 8.6" above the seat and cannot be adjusted. Ideal for short term sitting like conference rooms or short-term workspaces.

    Height-Adjustable Arms
Traditional task chair arms which allow for greater range of motion and customization. Ideal for extended sitting and regular workspaces.

    Leaf Arms
A new approach to task chair arms built exclusively for the Cosm. Designed by Studio 7.5, leaf arms provide a large, comfortable resting place for your elbow. The soft but firm cradle design stabilizes your body and allows you to place your elbow wherever it’s most comfortable, and the fixed design turns the arms into handles that make getting in and out of the seat easy.

    Product Overview

    Cosm Chair

    Key Features

    Product Highlights

Performance: A tilt is to a chair what a transmission is to a car, and like transmissions, some are manual, and others, such as Cosm's, are automatic. With other self-adjusting models, the chair forces the body to conform to the tilt's movement. Cosm's Auto-Harmonic Tilt puts the person first and responds to them - no matter their posture - providing a balanced recline and personalized comfort. Studio 7.5 and Herman Miller perfected the self-adjusting tilt by inventing and engineering a complex, finely tuned mechanism. Accounting for the sitter's vertical force, the gears within the tilt move the fulcrum along a leaf spring to automatically adjust the tilt's tension.

Intercept Suspension: Breathable and temperature-neutral, the continuous form of this elastomeric suspension eliminates the gap between the seat and back, conforming to each person's body to provide dynamic spinal support.

Flexible Frame: The thin but strong frame feels nearly non-existent and offers support while flexing so you can comfortably move your upper body.

    Back Height Options:
    - High Back-The high back chair provides total back support including upper-thoracic support.
    - Mid Back-The mid back chair provides support up to the scapular region.
    - Low Back-The low back chair fosters collaboration and casual movements through the wrap-top.

Arm Options:Any back height can be paired with any arm option.
    - No arms
    - Fixed non-adjustable arms
    - Height-adjustable arm. Height-adjustable arm moves 4.4 inches vertically.
    - Innovative leaf arm. Leaf arm is nonadjustable and supports your elbow while also clearing the work surface due to the angled arm position.

Tilt: The Auto-Harmonic Tilt is the first self-adjusting tilt from Herman Miller. The tilt gives each sitter individual support and a balanced recline that lets the body naturally pivot at the ankles, knees and hips.

Cosm Chair is tested and warranted for use by persons 350 pounds and under.

    Design Story

The German word for design is entwerfen, which roughly translates as “to throw.” According to the designers, that’s “throw something a little bit ahead of the curve, or ahead of what you know, to help pull you in the right direction.” With Cosm, “throwing” led Studio 7.5 to their most sophisticated design yet.

When Burkhard Schmitz and Carola Zwick started their design studio as a team of six in 1992, they were looking for the freedom to work on projects that interested them. And for the freedom from bosses and titles. “Everybody does everything,” says Schmitz, speaking for the group that now includes Carola’s brother, Roland Zwick. “That’s how we cultivate ideas and maintain our openness and curiosity.”

They find designing office chairs to be most rewarding and have worked with Herman Miller on the Setu Chair, the award-winning Mirra chair, Mirra 2, and Cosm. “We define not only how the chair looks but how it performs,” Carola says. As to how Setu, Mirra, and Cosm all perform for you, they provide comfort no matter how or where you sit.

      About Herman Miller

Herman Miller is a pioneer in the furniture industry, an innovator whose human-centered, problem-solving approach to design has introduced new ways of living and working for over 100 years. Environmentally-friendly design, lean manufacturing, ergonomics, the open office, even American modernism itself: Herman Miller and their designers have had a hand in shaping it all. In the spirit of their founder, D.J. De Pree, who established a willingness to abandon themselves creatively to the influence of others, they have partnered with the world’s leading designers for generations—from midcentury icons George Nelson, Charles and Ray Eames, and Alexander Girard to Michael Anastassiades, Scholten & Baijings, Yves Behar, and more of today’s leading design minds. Herman Miller's work with them continues to explore design as a method of change, and the enriching value authenticity brings to our lives. Together, Herman Miller is shaping new kinds of spaces where people will live and work for years to come.

    Care & Maintenance

With regular care and maintenance, your Herman Miller product will provide many years of superior performance and satisfaction. To maintain quality, please follow the cleaning procedures outlined here.

The instructions for the care and maintenance of Herman Miller products are provided to you as a service. No warranty is implied since results may vary.

      Frame, Base, and Standard Armpads
      Normal cleaning

Wash surface with a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.

Do not use solvents or abrasive kitchen cleaners.

      Suspension Material
      Normal cleaning

Vacuum fabric as needed using an upholstery attachment. Vacuuming picks up dust and reduces the need for professional cleaning.

Do not brush fabric or use a vacuum attachment with a rotary brush. Brushing may permanently damage the nap or change the character of the fabric.

      Spot Cleaning

Immediately soak up the stain with a soft absorbent cloth.

Do not dry the stain completely or it may set. The longer a stain is allowed to remain on a fabric, the more difficult it is to remove.

Water-based stains such as coffee, soft drinks, fruit juices, or milk

Use a water-based cleaner (specifically made for cleaning fabric) or a solution of mild (alkaline) warm soapy water (not overly soapy) applied with a damp clean cloth or sponge. Work the cleaner into a lather or foam.

Never use hot water; it will set the stain. Avoid scrubbing.

Oil-based stains such as lipstick, grease, or salad dressing

Use a dry cleaning solution applied with a damp clean cloth or sponge. Test the cleaning solution on a small, concealed area first. If there is no spotting, ringing, or damage to the fabric or its dyes, apply the cleaning solution to the soiled area with light, quick strokes. Begin at the outside of the stain and work toward the center, being careful not to over-saturate the fabric.

K2R is also a product that can be used. See product label for complete instructions. Do not over apply water or any liquid solution to fabric. Excessive wetting of the fabric with any liquid solution may result in permanent damage to the material. Do not rub too vigorously or you may damage the nap of the fabric or break fibers. Several light applications are better than one heavy application. Soak up all remaining solution and then use another clean cloth or sponge dipped in cool water to remove any residue. Let fabric dry thoroughly and then vacuum well before using. If the stain resists cleaning, contact a professional cleaner.

      Large Areas

If large areas are soiled, contact a professional cleaning firm.
